We will paint from still lifes primarily, and will accomplish several paintings a day. There will be daily demo work from me. Weather permitting, we may take the practice into the field.
* I will be working in oils or soft pastels for this workshop just because making changes is easy. I can provide oil supplies for a fee.

Tri-Hue Workshop 2011
with Bonny Roberts, AFCA
3 days, April 15, 16 and 17, 2011.

Here's an example of one of Bonny's Tri-Hue paintings:
This course teaches the 3 primary colours. Many of us were taught as children that we could use the 3 primary colours to make any colour. The problem with this theory was that they gave you the wrong 3 primaries! In this course we
will learn how to use the perfect 3 primaries to create
beautiful, luminescent paintings.
Acrylics are preferable for this course as that has been my medium of choice for over 8 years. This principle works for all mediums, though oils take too long to dry to use in the workshop. Feel free to bring your watercolours. Check out my website to see the various mediums done using tri-hue.
On the 3rd day we will create an abstract painting
using the tri-hue method. We will prepare our surface with various textures using gels, pastes and more. Lot's of fun!

Learn the secrets to creating bright and bold paintings. In addition to how to mix and apply paint for brightness, Mirja will show you photoshop methods for manipulating photos for colour and shade contrasts.

Compose, choose colours and finish a great painting idea from your own photos and ideas. Gain confidence as a painter while having creative fun. Bring your usual paints, brushes, mediums plus two canvases, paper, pencils and eraser. If possible, email Mirja your images or bring them on CD.
Watercolour Basics
Tuesday, Sept 28 to Oct 19, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
Learn the secrets of using watercolours: washes, gradations, drybrushing, charging and glazing. Put method to use by painting images along with Mirja. Drawings and handouts provided. Supply list available.
Beyond Learn to Draw
November 20 and 27, 9:30 to 3:30, Saturdays
Become more expressive. Discover the fun of gesture and other drawing methods. Learn about the many types and means for making beautiful marks. Play with charcoal and conte on coloured paper. Become a better drawer plus greatly add to your painting abilities. Supply list available.
Acrylics and Watercolour Plus – Start It, Keep At It, Finish It

Inspiring Minds cancellation and registration policies
• Registration forms will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
• For workshops, a 50% deposit is required to reserve a space. The balance is payable by the stated Reserve Date. This is non-refundable unless there is a replacement student.
• Whether a class will run is decided the day of the indicated RESERVE DATE. Confirmation and supply lists are provided upon registration.
• Withdrawal from the workshop after the reserve date forfeits the full fee unless there is a replacement student, less a $25 administration fee.
• If full payment is not received by the RESERVE DATE, your space may be given to another registrant.
• If a workshop is cancelled, your full registration fee will be returned.
• Workshop fees include instruction, lunches and snacks unless otherwise stated.
• Workshop hours are 9:30 to 4:00 daily unless otherwise indicated.
Accommodations, meals and transportation
• Arrangements for lodging to be made by each participant.
• Participants receive a 10% discount when staying at Windborne B&B.
• For dinners, there are many great restaurants and pubs in Castlegar, Rossland,Trail and Nelson – all within a 5 to 40 minute drive.
• Airport pickup available from Castlegar Airport.

• Unless otherwise specified, please bring the suggested art supplies. Supply lists are provided for each class.
